I am very proud of our latest project: Gymnasium Floor Tables. In collaboration with the Vintage Wood Flooring CO. and featured at the OC Mart Mix – our gym floor tables have made their debut. We have four proto-types so far, (thank you Eric Trine) but we can also take custom orders of any size within a 4 foot by 7 foot range. I love this project, because it is mindful of the environment. Instead of throwing the old floors away – we are turning them into something useful. Two principles lie behind our concept. “Each table is unique and hand crafted with quality in the USA” – and – “Keep them in the family, pass them down to your children.” It’s time to get back to making items that last, get serious about recycling the resources we already have, and stop throwing so much STUFF away. Don’t forget to like us on Facebook! -adc

I painted this landscape over 5 years ago. The setting is in Crystal Cove State Park. I had forgotten all about it until I found the photo in my files. When I opened it I was glad to see it again! It was my first serious landscape, and I remember agonizing over it a long time, trying to figure out which colors to mix and getting the perspective somewhat accurate. Eventually I gave it away to my friend, who loaned me the photo I used for reference. Now I appreciate the process of this painting so much more! -A lesson to me of my own style (which I’m still trying to figure out) and I would like to revisit the simple graphic style represented here, in my next landscape. adc

A few years ago, I met the owner of The Vintage Wood Flooring Company in Costa Mesa, CA. We used to be neighbors in the same office park. After a few conversations and a tour around their warehouse, I discovered some old barn beams they were holding on to, but had no use for as they weren’t suitable for flooring. I suggested they would make good benches and asked if I could take them to work with. We had an agreement, as long as I returned one of them finished to their showroom. I kept the concept simple in order to accentuate the rustic nature of the wood. I designed the concrete posts to simply suspend the beams. I spent days sanding the wood to rid of the old barn dirt, then waxed them to a warm glow. They are simple in design, and I am always happy with the juxtaposition of wood and concrete. I plan to make more furniture pieces using these elements. -adc

Last summer, my husband’s sister Kristen got married in the quaintest garden setting in San Diego. I had the honor of designing her wedding invitation based on her colors, Turquoise and Tangerine. I love how she and her bridesmaids incorporated the color and design elements throughout the wedding details. It was such a fun wedding and we had a blast celebrating her and new hubby, Joe. Her photographer, Scott Lawrence (scottlawrencephotographs.com) was super nice and very talented, as you can see in the images below. -adc

This is a commissioned piece – an abstract 30″ x 30″ for a new design store called Studio Fringe, in Newport Beach owned by interior designer, Pam Terry. (For whom I also designed the identity for, more on that later.) It was quite the process for this piece: layers of oil and turpentine on aluminum backed with birch, and finished with an epoxy coating. I hand-stained the frame (made of Walnut) and sent it to be custom made – all in all, I was very pleased with the outcome. It is my first abstract in this medium, and I have a feeling there will be more to come… -adc

A little while ago, some friends of ours asked me to help them make a memory book for 2 of their family vacations. One trip was to France, and the other to Tuscan Italy. Both trips were significant events, approximately one month long. The father of the family wrote journal entries for every day they spent on these vacations, and took photographs to accompany them. I had the privilege to put these memory books together, from start to finish which they later gave as christmas presents to their family members.

The France book, shown above is a large format, 12 x 17″ – and the Tuscan book, shown below is smaller at 12 x 11″. We had them printed digitally, and professionally bound, in cloth and leather, with debossed titles and window cut outs. As a designer, it was a dream project… -adc

Today, I took a walk on the Back Bay in Newport Beach. I was immediately struck by how beautiful it is, (being adjacent to our new neighborhood) and how restful it was for my eye- an open space in the middle of suburban chaos. The image burned into my memory, and I immediately returned home to paint the loveliness of it all… I think I will turn this composition into a large format. The medium is oil on aluminum. I left the water exposed to the aluminum which was exactly how it looked in person- reflective, shiny and smooth… -adc

This is our house on Holly Lane, a view of my personal style: I designed the chairs, re-finished the apothecary piece, and painted most of the paintings on the wall. We’re moving this weekend, so stay tuned for the next space. -adc
